The Chaos & The Void

This image represents The Chaos of anxiety and panic attacks followed by The Void of depression and suicidality. In this state, a person's mind and life can initially or periodically feel completely out of control filled with so many thoughts and feelings, and so much emotion that it is often completely overwhelming. This can leave a person gasping for air, feeling as if they are drowning. After the intensity of an experience, traumatic memories, or simply the overwhelm of too many emotions, the mind and body can shut down trying to survive through excessive sleep, inability to focus or participate in regular activities, or seclusion hoping that will quiet the madness inside. After a period of time, however, this shut down can lead to complete isolation where a person feels alone and unloved as if their very existence is no longer of importance or value, or that the world and everyone in it would be better off if they weren't alive. The emotions that were once overwhelming are now gone and instead a person can feel numb or empty as they move into The Void. This state of hopelessness can be when thoughts or plans of suicide surface.
